THE BRAND
Mossi is an ethical ready-to-wear brand designed in a spirit of integration and sharing. Mossi silhouettes evoke the rigor and aesthetics of couture.
Each creation is the result of long reflection on texture and volume. Like an architect, the creator takes advantage of the space given to him. He creates movement based on inertia and fixes it with plays of draping and pleats. The Mossi brand is nourished by artistic collaborations and artisanal know-how. Each season the designer articulates the story of his collection around an artistic partnership.
In 2019, the prints in the collection reproduced the textile sculptures of Simone Phelpin. In 2020, the Kufic and cursive writing of calligrapher Hassan Massoudy inspires the movements and colors of the new collection. And we collaborated with Korean artist Lee Bae for the year 2021.
MOSSI TRAORE
Nothing predestined him to fashion. As a child, Mossi Traoré imagined himself as a footballer rather than a stylist. But, very quickly, clothing became a means of expression for him, a way of building his personality.
Born to Malian parents, he spent his adolescence in the Hautes-Noues in Villiers-sur-Marne. Breaking with the dress codes of the neighbourhood, he imposed his choices and above all the freedom to dress as he wished. He then decided to devote his studies to fashion and in 2005 to join a training course as a fashion designer at the Parisian school Mod'Art International. Passionate about the world of the Opera, he performed several scenes at the Palais Garnier as a dresser.
The opportunity for him to discover the mysteries and actors of the Palais, who feed his imagination. At the end of his studies, he continued his apprenticeship in fashion and sewing as a volunteer with an Indian seamstress based at Gare du Nord and an African manufacturer with a workshop in the suburbs.
In parallel with his studies, he became head of a department within a boutique for Giorgio Armani. He travels a lot around the world, especially to Italy, Africa and India to immerse himself in and discover different cultures.
Les ateliers alix
Attached to the spirit of transmission, Mossi Traoré founded a haute couture school "Les Ateliers Alix" in 2015. Focused on creation and mastery of know-how (from corsetry to embroidery and finishing), it trains around thirty students per year. With the support of its association "Les Ateliers Parisiens" created in 2016, Mossi not only trains young people in Haute Couture but also helps them to integrate into the professional world.
The school and the association also train local women or migrants without qualifications in the sewing professions in order to have them take the CAP as an independent candidate and help them find a job. "Les Ateliers Alix" is also an opportunity for the designer to pay tribute to Madame Grès, Alix by her first name, whose work fascinates him. Fascinated by the design of Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, Margiela, Indian culture but also Japanese manga and contemporary art, in 2017, Mossi Traoré launched his MOSSI brand of women's ready-to-wear which evokes the rigor and aesthetics of couture.
